Toronto (Hybrid) Full-time $80,000 – $95,000 per year

Miller Bernstein is looking for a Senior Staff Accountant to join our assurance team in Toronto. This role suits someone who has ideally passed the CFE and brings three to four years of public practice experience, with a solid grounding in assurance and a genuine interest in developing into a well rounded public accountant while growing with the firm.

You would work under the direct supervision of experienced mentors, lead fieldwork on assurance engagements and help train the junior staff coming up behind you.

What you will do

  • Prepare and complete high quality working papers for review and audit engagements, working independently and leading the assurance team on fieldwork.
  • Apply a thorough understanding of GAAP and GAAS across assurance files, with a strong foundation in audit planning, risk assessment and designing responses to the risks you identify.
  • Prepare compilation (Notice to Reader) files and investment write ups.
  • Prepare personal (T1), trust (T3) and corporate (T2) income tax returns.
  • Coach, train and review the work performed by junior staff accountants.
  • Take on other related duties as the engagement requires.

What we are looking for

  • Three to four years of experience in public practice, with preference given to candidates who have passed the CFE and have solid assurance experience.
  • The ability to perform assigned tasks independently and to provide on the job training to junior associates when needed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently.
  • A collaborative and proactive approach to working as part of a team.
  • Good working knowledge of Caseware and Taxprep.
